What’s the quickest and easiest way to transform a dated apartment in Safety Bay into a modern, stylish one?
Answer: Paint the walls a cool, bright light grey and repaint the doors and frames a crisp white.
Drab to Fab
Ruzica lives with her father, Ivan, in Safety Bay, where she cares for him. However, they needed to catch up with the shabby state of their apartment. Ivan, who is 86 years old and used to living in modern, tidy homes, now finds it difficult to do things himself. It’s evident from his frustrated expression that he misses his old lifestyle. So, they sought our assistance in making their apartment more comfortable and appealing. Ruzica, an expert in colour and interior design, recognised that the apartment required a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up.
The apartment walls are brick, with minimal plaster covering them. Their texture makes painting challenging, requiring more than just cutting in and rolling the walls. We used a longer napped roller to push the paint into each indentation and roll the paint on slowly. By the end of the task, my arms were quite a lot hurting.
Painting the doors and frames was relatively easy. We discovered that the oil-based gloss paint provided excellent coverage, and after applying two coats of crisp white gloss paint, they looked immaculate.
Door Dilemma
Ivan has decided to install a Crimsafe security door for his room. To make this happen, he hired a builder to change the external door from opening outwards to inwards. However, when we started painting the door, we noticed it closed too tightly against the frame. As a result, Ruzica had to ask the builder to rehang it so there was enough room for the fresh coats of paint.
Handy Building Skills
Glenn started a builders’ apprenticeship when he was younger, and it is proving very useful to him now. It also came in handy when we owned a property maintenance business. Small tasks often need to be done, and we are happy to help our customers by completing these tasks.
We replaced the door handles to improve the apartment’s appearance and make everything match. However, the new handles could not fit into the old holes, so Glenn had to chisel the interior to make them fit.
Additionally, we replaced the old toilet roll holders and towel rails with modern ones, which we changed to a silver finish to match the new door handles and light fittings.
Happy Customers
After a fresh coat of paint, Ivan and Ruzica are thrilled with their apartment’s new bright, stylish look that perfectly matches Ruzica’s vision.
